Steve’s Grill in Tega Cay

Some friends invited us to join them on Friday at “Steve’s Grill” in Tega Cay. When hearing the location (just outside of the Tega Cay entrance, behind a hair salon), I remembered it as the old “Oda’s Tavern”, a place my husband and I visited a few times when we lived in Tega Cay ten years ago.

I remembered Oda’s as a smoky bar that served some tasty chicken wings, but not a place I’d take my mother!

We were amazed when we arrived at Steve’s, 7pm on Friday. There had to be more than a hundred cars, parked in the parking lot, the adjoining fields, up and down the drive leading in. Oda’s was never like that!

When we entered the restaurant, there was a bit of deja vu as we glanced into the back bar area, but the main dining area was all new to us. Big and open, a bit rustic, full of laughter and chatter, waitresses hustling to and fro.

We sat on the back patio, which was partially covered and seated another full set of patrons. There was a stage for music, though none that night.

Steve’s is the type of place where you can’t help but run into friends. Even though we moved from Tega Cay ten years ago, we still found some familiar faces and enjoyed a bit of a reunion!

The food was delightful. Of course we ordered some chicken wings (fantastic!), followed by entrees of burgers, fried fish, shrimp (all wonderful). The waitstaff was very friendly, efficient, and worthy of great tips (ensuring friendliness, efficiency, and worthiness for our next visit!).

Steve’s Grill has no website that I could find, and its Facebook page is rather outdated and skimpy, at that. Oh well, no one said that technology skills were required to run a great eatery, and based on the crowd, I don’t think the lack of publicity on the web is hurting them a bit.

Particularly if you live on the Fort Mill side of the Lake, Steve’s is a great place for food and friendship. Highly recommend!
